We are happy you are interested in adopting a bird, but you need to be aware that many birds have been incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained," and badly treated. Most rescue birds have had it. They've been pushed from one disgusting situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent teaching, or sufficient company. They're been crammed in small, unhealthy cages, and lived isolated from their families in a distant room. Some have never taken flight. They are scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some scream, some bite, and some are so withdrawn that they refuse all interaction. Some have given up. But you should never give up on a bird. We know that a bird is a living being, with a spirit and a heart and feelings. Birds are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation. So please don't rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain," or indeed of "getting" anything. Rescue to give, to love, to save a life -- and to mend your own spirit. For rescuing a bird will reward you in ways you never thought possible.
Unfortunately birds are like most pets, they cannot choose their human companions. Humans choose them. The least we can do is choose very carefully. Whatever you do, research as much as you can about the type of bird that you are thinking of adopting. If you would like to give an unwanted bird a home, get a bird that is not going to clash with your essential nature or lifestyle.
